DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — A former local mayor is facing theft charges.
Former DuBois mayor Randy Schmidt resigned in August.
Officials said he retired to spend time with family, but according to police, Schmidt is being charged with retail theft.
According to a criminal complaint, Schmidt stole from the Sheetz on North Brady Street in DuBois.
The complaint alleges that the thefts occurred on 17 different dates ranging from March to August.
Police say Schmidt would order food at a kiosk in the store, pay for it, then while waiting for his food to be made, he would pick up other various food and drink items and then once his made-to-order food was given to him, he would walk out of the store without paying for the additional items.
According to police, the items included drinks like chocolate milk, iced tea and soda.
Police say Schmidt also stole snacks like fruit snacks, pretzels, nuts and combos.
The criminal complaint says these items ended up totaling $80.75.
Schmidt is awaiting his preliminary hearing on October 9.
