JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — UPDATE: For those who have re-scanned their televisions, but still can't get a clear signal, our engineers are working on improving our broadcast signal over the coming days.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
ORIGINAL STORY: WJAC will be changing its over-the-air broadcast frequencies Tuesday.
Between now and next July, many local television stations across the country will be changing their over-the-air broadcast frequencies.
That means anyone who watches free over-the-air TV with an antenna, including our viewers, will need to re-scan their television to continue receiving local channels.
If you watch WJAC and our sub channels over-the-air using an antenna, you'll need to do that Tuesday.
Cable and satellite customers are not affected.
Many over-the-air TV channels across the U.S. are changing frequencies in order to open up airwaves for new high-speed wireless services.
Once viewers perform the re-scan, the channel number will move from 34 to 35.
Viewers are able to perform the same scan they did when they first set up their television.
“You hit the menu button on your remote control, and you look for something that says scan channels, you hit OK to allow that to happen,” WJAC engineering director Rob Abele explained. “It should take several minutes, and then you'll have WJAC just like you did before."
