PHILADELPHA (AP) — A man accused of slashing people with a large knife while riding a bicycle on a trail in Philadelphia in recent weeks has been formally charged in the cold-case rape and slaying of a medical student that occurred among a series of high-profile sexual assaults in a large city park two decades ago.

Several crews battle early morning house fire in Southmont Borough
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Cambria County dispatchers say several crews were called to an early morning house fire in Southmont Borough Wednesday.
911 officials say crews were dispatched just before 1 a.m. to a home along the 200 block of State Street.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Crews from Southmont, West Hills, Upper Yoder, Johnstown and Cover Hill were all on scene, as well as Hilltop and 7th Ward EMS.

Police in Michigan rescue 22 canines from suspected dog fighting ring
MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WWMT) — Police in Michigan rescued more than 20 canines from an alleged dog fighting ring on Friday.
After investigating four residences in Muskegon Heights and one in Norton Shores, officers from the Muskegon Heights Police Department rescued 22 dogs and recovered one that was deceased, authorities said in a news release.
Police arrested four people, three of which are charged with dog fighting and one had a warrant for their arrest, according to MHPD.

Train carrying hazardous materials derails in Pennsylvania prompting evacuations
WASHINGTON (TND) — Homes were evacuated in Pennsylvania Monday morning after a train carrying hazardous materials derailed. A 40-car CSX freight train derailed in Montgomery County just before 5 a.m. causing emergency crews to respond to Whitemarsh Township, according to CBS News. CSX said at least 16 cars went off the tracks but officials alter confirmed 15 cars derailed. Precautionary evacuations have occurred at the residents and businesses closest to the scene.

ATLANTA (AP) — A water main break has interrupted water service and led to low water pressure in the city's downtown and other parts of Georgia's capital.
Crews on Friday were “working aggressively” to make emergency repairs to the 32-inch water main, the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management said in a statement.

Woman reached speeds of 90 mph during chase that began in East Conemaugh
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Summerhill woman is behind bars after leading police on a high-speed chase Wednesday evening.
Police say the incident began around 7:15 p.m. when an officer with the East Conemaugh Borough police department approached a vehicle at the Water Works Car Wash.
Authorities say the driver, later identified as 29-year-old Billie Jo Moyer, was reportedly showing evidence of drug use while parked inside the vehicle and the officer believed that she was overdosing.
