CLEARFIELD, Pa. — Three Clearfield County sporting goods stores are hosting a three-day sale that draws people from out of town.
Grice Gun Shop, Jim's Sports Center and Bob's Army and Navy are having sales from Friday to Sunday.
"It's a big boost economically," said Director of Visit Clearfield County Josiah Jones. "All year round we have visitors come because of those three businesses and this week alone will probably be the busiest weekend you’ll see in Clearfield, especially downtown Clearfield, because of their three-day sales.”
Jones said the event draws hundreds of visitors each year.
“I’m from Frewsburg, New York, and I've come down to the sale for the last 35 years," said customer Dick Turk. "I've only missed one year so far.”
"We make it a point to come up every year if we can, just out of curiosity," said customer Mike Johnson. "There’s a few things we like to look for.”
Out-of-towners not only visit the three shops but also eat at local restaurants.
Kitchen Manager Carrie Pentz at Denny's Beer Barrel and Pub said it's one of their busiest weekends.
Pentz said they prep extra food and bring on more staff to keep up with the large crowds.
“We have some people that come from out of town for the sales downtown and the sportsman show and they kind of have a tradition where they come to Denny's for lunch or dinner," said Pentz.
Jones said the event has been going on for a long time and keeps getting bigger every year.
“Our restaurants and other businesses downtown are going to have a big boost revenue wise, so it's really great they offer this," said Jones.
Parking is free downtown this weekend.
