'We're shell-shocked!' Woman arrested for shooting, killing Philadelphia bus driver in broad dayligh

Authorities say a woman has been arrested for allegedly shooting a bus driver to death in Philadelphia.

“This is a very traumatic incident for the entire SEPTA family. Quite frankly, we're shell-shocked."

SEPTA leaders are in mourning after one of their bus drivers was shot and killed in Germantown while on duty.

Officials say surveillance video from a nearby store captured the suspect moments after she fired multiple shots.

“She was on the bus. The way it's described to me, stepped off the bus, fired into the bus and then got on and off several times."

The driver, identified as 48-year-old Bernard Gribbin, was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

He had been with the transit authority for 12 years.

Bilal El-Bedawi was driving directly behind the number 23 bus near Germantown and Abbottsford Avenues, just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

He remembers hearing a loud bang.

“Then I heard an initial boom, so I thought the handicap landing had fallen or was inoperable, so after that it was consecutive boom, boom, boom, boom."

From where he sat, El-Bedawi says he could see passengers on the bus frantically trying to get out of harm's way.

“That's when people began to the exit emergency exits and the side windows and things of that nature."

No one on the bus was hurt.

Authorities say a person matching the description of the suspected shooter was picked up at a gas station a short time later.

But right now, the question on everybody's mind is why this happened.

“We don't have a report of a disturbance or an argument. We just don't know."

“There was no significant interaction between this individual and the operator. This appears to have happened with unknown cause that we can determine at this point."
